More about Dr. Adio Mangrum

Dr. Adio Mangrum is a sport- and fitness-oriented therapist with a knack for making his patients feel comfortable and at ease. He is originally from California and now resides in North Carolina with his family. During his undergraduate studies, Adio was inspired to become a physical therapist after his daughter was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis as a baby. Her medical challenges led him to pursue a career in physical therapy. Since 2015, Adio has helped a variety of patients, from high school athletes to 100-year-old great-grandmothers. He enjoys helping people identify those problems that keep them from moving the way they want to move. He takes pride in working with his patients to overcome any challenge so they can get back to doing the things they love to do. Your goals are his game.

Education

Adio received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from CSU Sacramento in 2015. He started his educational career as an electrical engineering major before earning his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from CSU Sacramento.

  • 2015: Doctor of Physical Therapy, California State University, Sacramento
  • 2012: Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology, California State University, Sacramento

Certifications

Dr. Mangrum is certified in Functional Movement Screen (FMS Level 1). FMS is a screening tool used by healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists, sports medicine specialists, and strength and conditioning coaches, to evaluate movement patterns and identify potential functional limitations or asymmetries in the musculoskeletal system.

Specialties

Adio loves treating athletes of all ages and genders, but specializes in high school boys. His preferred sports to treat are football, basketball, and soccer. In his experience, young runners, swimmers, gymnasts, and even softball players tend to suffer the most from overuse injuries, whereas football, soccer, and basketball are sports where acute injuries are more common. Adio genuinely enjoys helping young athletes recover from or prevent injuries that could potentially disrupt their sports careers in their early stages. As a random fact, Adio's kids are on sports teams that triumphed as the NCCSA Division 1A State Champions!

Fun Facts

Adio loves to read but his favorite activity is spending time with his family playing basketball in the driveway, soccer in the backyard, or "rough housing" on the floor. Another fun fact is that Adio attended 6 different colleges and universities before finishing his bachelor's degree and he spent his free time country line dancing while in physical therapy graduate school.
