More about Dr. Catherine Madsen
Over the last 10 years, Catherine has worked in the health and wellness industry, initially as a yoga instructor, followed by a role in corporate fitness and wellness, and now as a physical therapist. Catherine believes that injury prevention, nervous system regulation, and health promotion are the fundamental pillars of physical therapy. She is passionate about educating individuals on how to maintain their wellness and continue pursuing their passions for as long as possible.
Dr. Madsen completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Texas State University, at the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses respectively.
- 2020: Doctorate of Physical Therapy, Texas State University
- 2015: Bachelors of Exercise Sports Science, Texas State University
Catherine has received advanced certifications in closed chain exercise/core activation and direct current electrical stimulation. Both are treatment modalities that emphasize neuromuscular re-education, which involves strengthening the connection between the brain, nerves, and muscles for sustained improvement.
Her interests outside of physical therapy have shaped her specialties within the field. She is passionate about exercise and travel, and she loves empowering individuals on their own fitness and travel journeys. Additionally, she has a keen interest in the nervous system and its role in everyday life, injury recovery, and post-trauma situations.
Catherine is originally from Canada, so you may hear her apologizing frequently. She has traveled to four continents and hopes to visit all seven by 2045. Her favorite forms of exercise are Lagree Pilates and boxing, which provide a counterbalance to her keen interest in breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
